The CICDA Co-op Award has been granted annually since the 2009-2010 academic year. The award is granted to one full time students enrolled in the Faculty and Arts Co-op program, the award is worth approximiately $6,000.00. The award is given to a student with the opportunity to be employed during a co-op work term by an organization that would otherwise not have the funds the offer employment. These include: non-profit organizations, government and organizations funded by government such as hospitals and museums. Students are not eligible to use the scholarship to work within the private sector, with the exception of approved arts and cultural organizations such as a theatre group, symphony or ballet. All positions must be approved by the Co-op Office.
To be eligible for the program you must be a full time student currently registered in the Faculty of Arts attending the Laurier Waterloo Campus, and must also be registered in the Co-op option. The student must also demonstrate financial need and have previous volunteer experience. This is a non-renewable award.
The recipient(s) shall receive fair compensation for their work, based on current economic conditions and the average compensation paid to other students in the Arts Co-op program during the same time period. Scholarship recipient(s) will only begin receiving scholarship funds once a co-op work term has been confirmed and the recipient successfully completes two (2) weeks of work. Money will be released bi-weekly for hours of work performed. Co-op employers must ensure scholarship recipients are provided with a 35-hour work week for a minimum of 12 weeks.
