As the recipient of the 2011/2012 CICDA Co-op Award I had the opportunity to work for the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa. My tasks were: artefact reconciliation, editing and creating databases, artefact illustration and more. The museum also sent me to do a month of fieldwork along the beautiful Sunshine Coast where we excavated a 4 000 year old First Nations burial ground. This was an incredible experience that taught me invaluable skills such as teamwork, attention to detail, and important archaeological skills such as excavating shell midden, profiling, etc It has always been my goal to be a curator when I finish my studies, and this work experience gave me a glimpse into the incredible workings of a national museum. Thank you, CICDA, for this opportunity. My work term was a blast!
